I was there on Tuesday last week. The Freedom of the Seas dropped 100′s of pallets of everyting from water to communication devices. We even had an onboard donation to give even more. The armed UN troops picked it up in trucks and escorted to Port Au Prince.

Point well taken. However, the Labadee “port” is not a port at all. The ships have to stay 15 minutes off shore because they are too big to dock in fact, there is no dock, but a small concrete jetty big enough for a couple of locals to tie up their row boats. I stood on it to take some of this video. The large ships are offloading some supplies to smaller boats and bringing them ashore, but this is 60 miles away from the capital, and the trucks would be attacked and looted No easy solution.

Funny. I’m sure you realized this video for the Travel with Kid Cruise DVD was filmed last year and posted 8 months ago. Royal Caribbean is continuing to dock at this port. Good for locals who continue have jobs in the coming months. The ships are bringing relief supplies. They employ 500 Hatians at this port. Odd to be living it up while thousands are suffering just 60 miles away? Probably, but I think it would be worse to pull out and shut down the port at this point.
